Retired IIT official jumps to death

A retired Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi official allegedly jumped to his death from the seventh floor of a building at the IIT campus in Hauz Khas here on Saturday. The police have not found any suicide note yet.

Ashok Sharma, 62, worked as senior scientific officer at IIT-Delhi and earlier lived inside the institute campus. After retirement, he had shifted to Dwarka about a month ago. However, he used to visit his colleagues on regular intervals. He jumped around 12.30 p.m.

One of his daughter is a professor in Orissa, while another daughter and a son are settled in the United States. He had been living alone in Dwarka as his wife was in Orissa. The police found that Mr. Sharma had recently moved court seeking extension of retirement age to 65.
