Remove objectionable posters: poll panel to AAP

Acting on the complaint made by Leader of Opposition (LOP) in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha Vijender Gupta, the State Election Commission (SEC) on Tuesday directed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to remove hoardings and posters displaying an allegedly distorted photograph of the senior BJP leader.

The Commission has asked the AAP to take “appropriate action within 48 hours and to submit a report for their perusal”, failing which the SEC said it would be forced to take an ex-partite decision in the matter.

On Monday, a delegation of the BJP Legislature Party led by Mr. Gupta had called on the SEC to file a complaint against the AAP and its national convener Arvind Kejriwal in regard to the installation of the allegedly “objectionable” posters and hoardings put at 200 locations in the Capital.

‘Feared serious defeat’

Mr. Kejriwal, the LOP alleged, was 'fearing serious defeat in the forthcoming elections' and that was why he had put “objectionable” posters and banners throughout Delhi “showing the smiling face of Kejriwal and a villainous photo of the LOP” with the caption ‘ MCD ki Bagdor kisko? Kejriwal or Vijender Gupta (BJP)

Describing his photo in the poster as 'degrading and a move to defame him,' the LOP demanded that the Commission take immediate strict legal action against the AAP.

“Lakhs of such posters installed all over Delhi must be removed forthwith as this openly violates of the Model Code of Conduct,” Mr. Gupta had said.
