Delhi Metro will run fewer services on Sunday between Barakhamba Road and Yamuna Bank metro stations for six hours due to track maintenance work.
“The frequency of train services between Barakhamba Road and Yamuna Bank Metro Stations will be 24 minutes between 6 am to 12 noon while the rest of the lines and section of line-3 between Barakhamba-Dwarka section will remain normal,” DMRC Spokesman Anuj Dayal said.
The frequency of trains on the line on a normal Sunday is four-five minutes. Last Sunday too, the frequency of trains between the two stations was reduced for maintenance work. The maintenance work involves work on the track near the newly opened Yamuna Bridge (Eastern End) where ballasted and ballast-less tracks meet.
“The interaction between ballast and ballast-less tracks results in stresses being created since these metallic tracks are subjected to wide temperature variations ranging from below zero degree to sixty six degrees during different weather conditions in the city of Delhi and during train operations,” Dayal said.
This causes stress to occur on the track which has to be released, he added. The activity is being taken up on this section since it is new and recently experienced rainy conditions. The process is normally done once a year.
