After his visit to Jama Masjid early on Tuesday morning, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited Red Fort built in the mid-17th century by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan.
Mr. Sharif was accompanied by a 15-member delegation as well as Dr Rakesh Tiwari, Director General, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and Vasant Kumar Swarnkar, Superintending Archaeologist, ASI Delhi Circle.
“At the Red Fort, Mr Sharif visited the Naubat Khana, the Diwan-e-Aam and the Diwan-e-Khas. He asked several questions about the history of the construction of the fort, where the building material had been brought from and how the aqua-ducts worked.
He read several of the Persian inscriptions and appreciated that the monument has been preserved so well,” said Dr. Swarnkar of ASI. Mr Sharif spent 40 minutes at the Red Fort.
