July 29, 2011 11:09 am | Updated 11:09 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A two-year-old girl, who was abducted and raped in Kanjhawala here over the weekend, succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday.

The girl's family was sleeping in their one-room tenement in “Kacchi Colony” in Kanjhawala with the door open because of the hot weather on July 24 night when an unidentified man allegedly took the girl away. “The family had gone to sleep around 1 a.m. and an hour later the girl's mother found her missing. They looked around in the neighbourhood and found her lying in a pool of blood behind a temple some distance away from the house,” said a senior police officer.

The girl was admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital. “Her condition deteriorated on July 27 and she was shifted to Maharaja Agarsen Hospital. She succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday night. She died because of heavy bleeding,” the officer said. The police suspect the involvement of some juvenile. “It seems to be the handiwork of some juvenile. We have some definite leads and are carrying out door-to-door searches,” said the officer. One “tantrik” who visited the family has reportedly been detained for questioning.
