Several cases of rape and molestation were reported from different parts of the Capital on Monday.
In the first incident, a minor girl was allegedly raped by her landlord at Kotla Mubarakpur in South Delhi on Monday. It is learnt that the incident was reported to the police after she told her parents about the assault.
According to sources, Sumit, the accused raped the 11-year-old victim at her residence when her parents had gone to a nearby market. The accused also allegedly threatened the girl with dire consequences if she informed anyone about it.
The girl, however, told her parents once they reached home. They then took her to the police station and lodged a complaint against Sumit. A case under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code was registered and Sumit was subsequently arrested.
On Monday a 26-year-old junior engineer of Delhi Jal Board was arrested. Faraz was arrested at Jamia Nagar for allegedly raping a 22-year-old girl over the past one year on the pretext of marriage.
In another case in North-East Delhi, a Class VIII student was allegedly molested as she resisted an attempt to kidnap her. The police have apprehended a juvenile in connection with the case.
The incident occurred on Monday evening when the 15-year-old victim was on her way home from her coaching classes. She was waylaid by a person in a car and told her that he wanted to be friends with her, a proposal turned down by the girl.
At this, he dragged the girl inside his car and started driving it. The girl, however, managed to jump off the moving car near the Shahdara metro station. Following this, she went back home and narrated the incident to her parents who lodged a complaint at Shahdara police station.
A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered.
