Self-styled god-man Daati Maharaj on Tuesday joined the investigation into the rape case registered against him following a complaint by a former disciple.

He visited the Crime Branch office in the afternoon and was questioned for nearly four hours before being allowed to leave, a senior police officer.

Stating that the accused will be called for questioning again, the office said, “A team had visited his residence in Rajasthan but did not find him there. Summons were issued to him to join the probe by Wednesday.”

The victim, a 25-year-old resident of Rajasthan, had told police that she was raped by the god-man on several occasions in Delhi and Rajasthan. She also accused two of his disciples of assault.

A disciple of the god-man for nearly a decade, she stopped following him two years ago. Unable to come to terms with repeated instances of rape, she allegedly confided in her parents and lodged a complaint.

The woman also accused a female disciple of forcing her to go to the accused’s room.

The accused female disciple allegedly told the victim she was not the only one and that other female disciples too had sought “his blessings”.

A case was registered under Sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural sex) and 354 (molestation) at south Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri police station. The case was later transferred to the Crime Branch.
