Railways start special trains, restore 40

Train operations, which have been severely hampered due to the ongoing Jat agitation, saw slight improvement on Monday with Northern Railway restoring some cancelled trains, apart from starting a few special trains to help stranded passengers.

The Railways have also announced that passengers of those trains that have been cancelled due to the ongoing Jat agitation will get full refund. “We are adding extra counters at different railway stations to provide refund to passengers. As per the rules, the entire amount would be returned to passengers,” Neeraj Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, Northern Railway told The Hindu .

Though the total number of trains affected by the agitation went up to 1,126 on Monday, the Northern Railway was able to restore 40 trains that had been earlier cancelled, partially cancelled or short terminated.

The Northern Railway was able to restore the busy Delhi-Rewari route on Monday, the closure of which had affected train movements to and from many areas in South and West India. It has also started special unreserved trains from Chandigarh to Delhi’s Anand Vihar terminal, Jammu Tawi to Delhi Junction, Katra to the New Delhi railway station and Delhi Junction.

The important train services that Northern Railway has been able to restore include Mumbai, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad Rajdhani trains, the Howrah-Kalka Mail, the Pune Duranto Express, Tamil Nadu Express, etc. Trains destined to and from Chandigarh, Amritsar and parts of Haryana, however, remains cancelled.

In order to clear the stranded rail passengers, the Northern Railway is also running a special train (No. 02413) from the Delhi Junction to Jammu Tawi at 6 p.m. and another special train (number 02471) will depart from New Delhi to Jammu Tawi at 10 p.m. The special trains will run via Pathankot Cantt, Jalandhar Cantt, Ludhiana, New Morinda, Chandigarh, Ambala Cantt, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut City, Ghaziabad route.

Apart from this, two other special trains form Delhi’s Anand Vihar Terminal will reach Chandigarh via the Ghaziabad, Meerut City, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Ambala route. The Northern Railway is also running special trains between Shrimata Vaishno Devi Katra and New Delhi rail station via Udhampur, Jammu Tawi, Pathankot Cantt, Jalandhar Cantt, Ludhiana, Ambala Cantt, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut City and the Ghaziabad route.
