The Delhi government on Wednesday began the process of granting 10,000 auto-rickshaw permits, along with the Registration Certificates (RCs), to eligible allottees here.

Approved by the Supreme Court, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot initiated the process with a distribution ceremony at Burari along with local MLA Sanjeev Jha.

The permits are being allotted to candidates with valid driving licences and auto-rickshaw badges.

The procedure for selection of 10,000 permits was finalised by the Transport Department through an online system, with applications being shortlisted as per seniority in terms of driving licences.

Loan without collateral

According to the government, Mr. Gahlot said the Delhi Finance Commission (DFC) will provide a loan without collateral to auto-rickshaw purchasers.

He added that the Delhi government will explore the possibility of providing more TSR permits to the intended applicants.

The Department had invited online applications for issuing 10,000 auto permits in January and received 11,177 responses, said a senior government official.

Eligible applicants, who were not in possession of commercial permits issued in their names earlier as per a new rule, were directed to submit requisite documents between August 28 and September 10.

Following this, 9,729 applicants submitted their documents to the Department and 9,064 of them were found eligible following scrutiny.
