: Three policemen and a BSES official were injured on Saturday after a raid against suspected electricity thieves in a village near Najafgarh turned ugly when local youth started pelting stones at the personnel.

None of the injured men are in a serious condition and have been discharged from the hospital, said a senior police officer.

The incident took place around 1 p.m. at Bakkarwala village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Jaffarpur Kalan police station.

“The BSES officials had received complaints of electricity being illegally drawn. The officials sought police help to conduct a raid and were provided with some personnel,” said RA Sanjeev, DCP (South-West).

The cops and BSES officials were getting off their vehicles when they were taken by surprise by the stone-pelting locals. The police called for reinforcement, which forced the assailants to flee. The BSES raid was called off.

A BSES vehicle too was left damaged.

A case pertaining to obstructing and assaulting public servants from discharging their duty and of rioting has been registered against the suspects.
