Taking moral responsibility for a poor show by the party in the municipal elections, Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken on Wednesday said he is resigning from the party post.

Mr. Maken announced his decision to step down at an impromptu presser.

While trends show BJP sweeping all the three municipal corporation of Delhi and AAP coming a distant second, Congress is likely to finish third, even losing deposit in many wards.

Earlier in the day Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, while congratulating BJP for its win, mentioned that Congress improved its vote share in the local body elections.
