: North District Police will seek the custody of Muneer, arrested for allegedly murdering NIA officer Tanzeel Ahmad, for his custodial interrogation in connection with a murder-cum-heist at an ATM in Kamla Nagar in 2014.

The two bikers who had gunned down a security guard before riding away with a bag filled with Rs. 1.5 crore were Muneer and his mentor-cum-aide Ashutosh Mishra, said the police.

Thus far, the case was one of the prominent unsolved cases in Delhi’s recent crime history.

The two had come wearing helmets, which is why despite a CCTV footage the police could not identify them initially.

Mishra had been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police in one of their cases, and was lodged in Aligarh Jail. He was brought on transit remand last week, and reacting on the latest development, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Madhur Verma said Mishra Muneer’s name surfaced during the interrogation as well.

“We will seek his custody in the future. As of now, Mishra’s interrogation is on,” said Mr. Verma.

After the incident, several teams of the Delhi Police, including Crime Branch and Special Cell, had also been after the suspects.

Asked if it was the Uttar Pradesh Police that had solved the case for them, sources in the Delhi Police claimed a team of North District Police had received an input two weeks ago about the involvement of Mishra and Muneer in the robbery and murder.

After looting the ATM, the suspects took a house on rent in North Delhi’s Subji Mandi. However, before they could distribute the looted booty, Mishra was picked up by the U.P. Police and Muneer had to run.

Two teams of Delhi Police have been sent to Muneer’s native places in Bijnor and Aligarh.
