A Delhi court on Monday extended by three days the police remand of Unitech promoters Ajay Chandra and Sanjay Chandra in a cheating case in connection with a real estate project in Gurugram.

Custodial interrogation

Metropolitan Magistrate Ashu Garg allowed the Delhi Police plea for extension of custody after they submitted that a few offices and other premises of the accused persons were yet to be searched.

“It’s clear that further custodial interrogation of both the accused persons is necessary so as to recover incriminating documents and collect evidence from other offices of the accused persons. Thus, both the accused are remanded to police custody for a further period of three days. They be produced on Thursday at 2 p.m.,’’ the Magistrate added.

Vijay Aggarwal, the counsel for the accused, opposed the probe agency’s plea saying they had already been granted enough time to interrogate the duo.

A number of people who had gathered outside the courtroom shouted slogans against the two accused as the police took them away.

Money trail

The court had on April 1 remanded both the accused to two-day police custody after the probe agency said their custodial interrogation was required to find the alleged money trail, beneficiaries of transactions and to recover documents related to the project.

The police had registered the case in 2015 following a court direction.
