Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Jitin Prasada on Thursday informed that Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) had drawn up an ambitious plan to provide piped natural gas (PNG) in all the colonies in the Capital as part of its green initiative.
``The Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) plans to add one lakh new PNG connections during the next financial year. The network has already connected nearly 1, 80, 000 households and commercial establishments. I have told the senior officials in IGL to take up the expansion work in right earnest and reach out to the people to provide the environment friendly gas,’’ Mr. Prasada said.
The Minister said he had directed IGL to accelerate providing PNG connections to the households in Delhi in order to reduce the reliance on LPG cylinders.
Asserting that signing of an agreement for supply of natural gas to Thyagaraj Stadium which has been geared for Commonwealth Games, was part of the green initiative of Ministry, Mr. Prasada offered all assistance of the Ministry for this purpose to the Delhi Government.
IGL, the sole supplier of CNG and PNG in Delhi signed an agreement with Public Works Department of Delhi for supplying natural gas to the Gas turbines at Thyagaraj Stadium, which is the totally eco-friendly green building being built for Commonwealth Games 2010 being held in Delhi.
IGL would be supplying 30,000 scm per day of natural gas for 3.5 MW gas turbine installed at the stadium. The metering and regulating station are under installation and the gas supply is expected to start in the last week of March 2010.
