Plea claims graft in toll tax collection

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Delhi High Court has alleged corruption in collection of toll tax from commercial vehicles entering the Capital and has sought a court-monitored probe into the issue.

The petition, filed by an association of commercial vehicle drivers, has claimed that the three civic bodies collect toll through a private company, which does not follow by-laws for collection of the tax. The matter has been listed matter for November 1.

The petitioner has sought a court-monitored inquiry and action against those found responsible for alleged corruption in toll tax collection.

According to the plea, the contract for collection of toll tax was granted to the private firm for nine months for a sum of ₹480 crore. Despite expiry of the contract period, toll tax continues to be collected, it alleged.
