A Jet Airways plane, which was coming from Amritsar, had to make a priority landing under emergency conditions at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Wednesday. The situation arose after a smoke alarm went off in the cockpit. Sources said the plane, which was carrying 19 passengers, was approaching Delhi when the pilots detected a smoke alarm light.
“The aircraft took off from Amritsar as per schedule and was expected to land at Delhi Airport around 6-25 a.m. But while approaching Delhi, the pilots detected the smoke alarm light blinking in the cockpit. They immediately sought permission from the Air Traffic Control for emergency landing,” said an airport official.
“The ATC gave immediate clearance for landing and the aircraft landed with full emergency preparations at 6 a.m.,” added the official. A Jet spokesperson confirmed the incident and said that it was an uneventful landing where all the passengers were completely safe.
