PIL seeks scanners for parcels at stations

May 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:53 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the Railway Ministry to treat a public interest litigation (PIL) as a representation to look into installation of scanners for checking heavy parcels at all railway stations in the Capital.

Petitioner Salek Chand Jain has also sought directions to the Railway Ministry to implement the recommendations of a high-level Safety Review Committee headed by nuclear scientist Anil Kakodkar.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath directed the Railway Ministry to take steps on the PIL.

The petition also pointed out that though 13 lakh passengers commute daily from various railway stations in Delhi, CCTV cameras were installed only at a few stations.
