The Delhi University row reverberated at a meeting of a Parliamentary Standing Committee, which questioned Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik, leading to registration of an FIR in the case.

The issue was raised by the Opposition at a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs, headed by Congress leader P. Chidambaram, amid protests by ruling BJP members. The MPs asked the Delhi Police Commissioner about the action taken with regard to threats issued to DU student Gurmehar Kaur. They also asked if the girl had been given security.

Within an hour of his being quizzed, Mr. Patnaik conveyed to the MPs that an FIR had been registered against unknown persons.
