: A fee-hike panel has asked 535 private schools in the Capital to refund the extra fee they took from parents.
The panel, headed by Justice Anil Dev Singh, had identified these schools to be overcharging parents on the pretext of implementing the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission while not doing it.
The panel was constituted last year following the Delhi High Court’s order, and has so far submitted 10 interim reports to be implemented by the schools.
“The committee has in the 10 interim reports recommended refund of excess fee recovered with 9 per cent interest against 535 unaided schools and that amount goes to over Rs. 300 crore,” an official statement read.
“In the 10th interim report, the panel has directed 24 schools including 18 DAV Schools, Laxman Public School-Hauz Khas, Modern Public School- Shalimar Bagh, The Pinnacle School-Panchsheel Enclave, Greenway Modern Senior Secondary School, Cambridge School-Sriniwaspuri and Bhartiya Vidya Bhawa’s Mehta Vidyalaya to refund excess fee,” it added.
After submission of eight of the reports, the Directorate of Education (DoE) had directed 472 schools to refund the amount within 15 days. However, till December last year, only 43 schools had complied with the order.
The panel has so far examined the financial records of as many as 1092 unaided schools.
