The Laadli girl child welfare scheme of the Delhi Government has now reached a stage of where as many as 6,917 girls registered under it have passed Class X examinations.
The Delhi Government maintains that Rs.3.7 crore has already been released as final claim to 6,917 girls who have completed 18 years of age.
The scheme is linked with the education of the girl child and has been replicated by the Union Government and various State Governments over the past two years. About 2,90,655 girls had been registered under the scheme byJuly 2010 and it is being linked with a positive change in the gender ratio in the city as well as the enrolment of girls in schools.
The Department of Women and Child Development has now urged the parents of the eligible girls to file their final claims along with the original acknowledgement receipt issued by State Bank of India, original passbook issued by the bank and the original pass certificate of Class X or the original certificate of admission in Class XII and photocopies of the above documents.
The department has stated it would help the students secure admission in the higher secondary. On its part, the Delhi Government will deposit an additional amount of Rs.5,000 in their accounts. The girls will become eligible to claim the final payment after expiry of one year.
Under Laadli scheme, there is also a facility to open a zero balance account in any of the 103 authorised branches of SBI in Delhi. For that two passport size photographs, residence proof and photo identity proof of the girl child is needed.
