The Delhi Police have arrested a 34-year-old man from Mumbai for allegedly raping a 27-year-old woman from Uzbekistan in south Delhi’s Mehrauli for over six months till she filed a complaint in April.

The man was absconding for over two months and was finally arrested from Mumbai’s Matunga on June 16. “Sonu alias Jagjeet Singh was arrested on the basis of technical surveillance,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Chinmoy Biswal.

The police said the accused was friends with the victim’s friend, who is also from Uzbekistan.

The woman had complained that Sonu had lured her to India, sized her passport and held her captive for six months. He had allegedly posed as the CEO of a private firm and asked her to come to India on pretext of giving her a job.
