On Day 2, DU admissions pass off smoothly

No issues with the admission portal; some confusion with reserved category admissions and sports/ECA admissions.

After initial hiccups in Delhi University’s (DU) admissions process on Day One, the second day of admissions went off relatively smooth.

Though some issues like confusion with the reserved category admissions and sports/ECA admissions bothered the students, there were no issues with the admission portal.

Taking lessons from a bad start, the university made sure that the services did not crash on the second day.

The university had on Wednesday announced its first cut- off list.

The applicants had to study the list, select course and college on the admission portal for an admission slip and approach respective colleges with the slip and required documents.

However, the admission portal had crashed, giving a tough time to students.

“There were minor technical glitches on Thursday but we resolved them. We are also requesting applicants not to panic if the website is running slow at a particular moment. There is heavy traffic on the website, which may lead to making it slow,” a senior university official said.

This is the first time that DU has made the admission process completely online for UG courses.

A student who came for admission at Gargi College said: “I did not face any problems due to technical glitches. The website was working fine on Friday.”

Confusion over trials

Another student was found confused about ECA admissions. “I am really confused about the ECA trials. DU has not intimated students about them yet,” said Vanshika, a student from Vikaspuri. With a best of four of 95 per cent she is aiming for colleges like Hindu and KMC, both known for political science courses.

The university had received 2.5 lakh applications for the 54,000 seats in 63 colleges. In a major shift from previous years, no DU college has kept the ceiling at 100 per cent in the first cut-off list, however, the required percentage soared at almost all the colleges.

The students have three days to take admission under the first list following which the next cut-off list will be released.
