A day after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj asked Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung for a report on the Ola molestation case, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal wrote to the Union Minister complaining about the L-G’s style of working.

Ms. Maliwal, in her letter, said that the L-G conducts review meetings with the Delhi Police to assess the law and order situation in Delhi but the DCW is never called for it.

“One wonders how the L-G reviews the functioning of the Delhi Police with respect to women’s safety without involving the DCW, which has hands on information and instances that can contribute significantly to such a review,” Ms. Maliwal wrote.

She added that the Commission had given several recommendations to the Centre on women’s safety with the ‘most important’ recommendation being the creation of a high-level ministerial forum with the Union Home Minister, Delhi CM, Delhi Police and DCW.

“Presently, there is no forum in Delhi for collective decision-making and coordination on the issue of women safety,” Ms. Maliwal’s letter further read.
