Following a massive outrage over the murder of a Class II student in a Gurugram school, the Odisha government has issued guidelines to all schools in the State to follow safety protocol.
The guidelines asks schools to provide a safe zone to school children. The government has also asked teachers to strictly adhere to the ‘no meeting’ policy during school hours with visitors.
All those who visit schools regularly such as parents, guardians, house-helps and drivers should be issued identity cards and they should not be allowed to enter or leave the school premises without showing their identity cards.
Other visitors should be issued a visitor’s pass to be worn during their stay in the school campus.
Moreover, vendor vehicles and staff cars should be checked at the entry and exit points.
All support staff should be frisked by the school security both during arrival and departure.
The guidelines put emphasis on administrative staff taking periodic rounds of washrooms, lunch areas, classrooms and open spaces during and after school hours. The government has also made installation of CCTV cameras in schools and buses mandatory.
