Tourists arriving at New Delhi railway station can look forward to a radio taxi service that has been introduced at the Paharganj side of the station.
Passengers will be able to hire taxis at the EasyCabs booth outside the railway station. The on-ground staff of the company will help them board the cabs from the dedicated express lane.
“From a market research we understand that around 200-250 EasyCabs will be needed at the railway station at any given point in time. With an existing fleet of 1,000 EasyCabs in Delhi we are already geared up to meet this demand,” said CEO of Carzonrent Rajiv Vij.
The service would soon be extended to Old Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations as well.
Only this past week, tourist guides and rate charts for porters was launched at the station for the benefit of visitors and passengers.
According to Divisional Railway Manager (Delhi Division of Northern Railway) Ashwani Lohani, a lot has been done to beautify New Delhi railway station right from the main entrance to platform No.16 in view of the Commonwealth Games.
“The flooring of all platforms has been redone and steel metal has been extensively used in the form of furniture, pillars and benches. The circulating area has been cleaned up and entry lanes for taxis and other vehicles have been separated to decongest the area. Paintings depicting the various moods of Delhi are being put up. The same is being done for other Delhi stations also,” he added.
In addition to two existing foot over-bridges, another foot over-bridge has also been constructed for the convenience of passengers at the station. The parcel office has been shifted from the main station on the Paharganj side and in its place additional booking counters have been opened.
According to Mr. Lohani, the main concourse next to the booking counters at the railway station will now be able to accommodate about 500 passengers at one time. “The digital reservation chart is being displayed at platform No. 1 and 16 and would very soon be introduced in other platforms. The International Tourist Bureau which was temporarily shifted to a retiring room is also back to a renovated and newly furbished office on the first floor of the station,” he added.
