Hiring an auto-rickshaw in the city could now become easier for Smartphone users. They could locate the autos in their vicinity with the help of a mobile application, and call the auto driver directly on their mobile number and book a trip.
Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung will on Friday launch the Pooch-o App, which has been developed by transport body Delhi Integrated Multi-modal Transit Systems (DIMTS). The application can be downloaded from Google Play Store.
Officials said the application will be beneficial for both the parties involved. “The auto-rickshaw drivers will not have to look or wait for commuters endlessly, and commuters will be able to locate an auto from the comforts of their home,” an official said.
However, only three-wheelers which are equipped with GPS meters will be available under the scheme.
“All such auto drivers can get their phone numbers registered to avail of the service. They will need to keep the GPS in their auto on,” an official said.
The other benefits that the app offers include sending the location details to the auto driver, calculation of estimated fare for a trip, finding out the estimated travel distance, getting information on the estimated travel time, getting traffic updates of one’s route and using Google maps to check out alternative routes.
