The None of the Above (NOTA) option, available for the first time in the Delhi municipal elections, received 49,235 votes or 0.69% of the total votes polled.

Stating that NOTA was a good first-time addition, State Election Commissioner S. K Srivastava said people who were unhappy with candidate selection by political parties and Independents were still able to register their vote.

Candidate selection

He added that “49,235 people voting for NOTA shows that many were unhappy with candidate selection”. In the East Delhi Municipal Corporation, NOTA received 10,283 votes or 0.58% votes, while the number in the South Delhi corporation was 19,190 or 0.71% and 19,762 votes or 0.74% in the North body.

NOTA received more votes in the municipal elections than parties like the Communist Party of India, CPI(Marxist), Samajwadi Party, Shiv Sena, Rashtriya Janta Dal and Rashtriya Lok Dal.
