The North Delhi civic body is getting ready to shift its City Zone office, after Home Minister Rajnath Singh had a senior official removed upon finding the Asaf Ali Road premises filthy days ago.
The Home Minister inspected the office on November 18 and found the building in a mess, with documents strewn all over. City Zone Deputy Commissioner Hamendra Kumar was removed that day and sent to his parent department.
On Saturday, North Corporation Commissioner Pravin Kumar Gupta asked officers to expedite the shifting of the City Zone office to Kashmere Gate. Though Mr. Gupta said the shift was in process for six months, officials said it seemed to have been speeded up after the Minister’s indictment. The Commissioner said, “We are renovating the Old Hindu College Building at Kashmere Gate and two floors have been completed. I have asked officers to expedite the work so we can move the office in two months.”
He added that the renovation work at the Kashmere Gate building led to the present office premises being neglected. Meanwhile, at a weekly review meeting on Saturday, officials were asked to keep the corporation’s buildings, including offices, schools and toilets complexes, clean.
The civic body will also ramp up action against litterbugs by issuing more challans. The Commissioner also ordered zonal officers to file police complaints against those putting up illegal posters and hoardings.
