Nominations filed for mayoral polls in Delhi

Candidates for the posts of Mayor, Deputy Mayor and members of the Standing Committee of the three municipal corporations filed their nominations here on Monday.

The post of Mayor is reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates this year. Khushi Ram (BJP), Dharamveer Singh (Congress), Jeevan Lal (NCP) and Phool Kali (NCP) filed their nominations for the post of Mayor in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation. Mr. Lal and Ms. Kali have also filed their nominations for the Deputy Mayor post.

In the North civic body, Yogendra Chandolia of the BJP was the only candidate for Mayor and is all set to be appointed to the post next week.

The East Corporation saw both major parties put up a candidate for the mayoral post, with Meenakshi (BJP) and Tulshi (Congress) filing their nominations.

Elections will be held on April 29 in the East and the South corporations, while the North civic body will go to polls on April 28.
