Noida murder: suspect files surrender plea

Application in Greater Noida court; man yet to be arrested

The key suspect in the murder of a techie in Noida has submitted a surrender application in the Greater Noida court. He is, however, yet to be arrested.

Noida Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar Singh said Ashvini Yadav had submitted a surrender application through his lawyer.

“Although the suspect has submitted a surrender application, we are yet to arrest him,” Mr. Singh said.

Raids were conducted

Ashvini allegedly shot dead 23-year-old Anjali Rathour at Shatabdi Rail Vihar residential society in Sector 62 here early on Wednesday.

The deceased worked as a trainee engineer with mobile manufacturing company Lava in Sector 64 and hailed from Haryana.

Following the incident, raids were conducted at Ashvini’s house in Etawah in Uttar Pradesh as well as his temporary residence in Lajpat Nagar.

His cell phone is also switched off his since the murder, said a senior police officer.

‘Sufficient evidence’

“There is sufficient evidence to consider him a key suspect, but we cannot say anything till he is arrested and questioned,” the officer added.

Although the incident was captured on a CCTV camera, the police are yet to conclude whether the man in the footage was Ashvini.
