The Noida police on Sunday arrested a man in connection with a 10-day-old incident where a vehicle rammed and then ran over a bike in Sector 57.

The accused has been identified as 24-year-old Ankit Chauhan, a resident of Gijhor village. He allegedly confessed that he was behind the wheels when the incident took place on April 7.

Mr. Chauhan has claimed that he is the president of the Noida unit of the Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYU). However, Vivek Singh, the head of HYU Meerut range, told The Hindu: “The driver is not our officer-bearer. We have no relation with him. We have also lodged a complaint against the arrested person,” he said.

The HYU unit in Noida also claimed that they did not know Mr. Chauhan.

Police said the accused was caught on video ramming the bike and dragging it some distance.

The accused is seen getting out of his car to check the bonnet, going back into the car and driving over the bike.

The car bore a sticker of ‘Hindu Yuva Vahini’ on the front windshield and “Noida Secretary – Hindu Yuva Vahini” on the back. The bike was being driven by delivery boy Amarnath Jha, who escaped with minor injuries.

The car is registered in the name Lalit Singh Chauhan, who said to be Mr. Ankit Chauhan’s brother.
