No extra water for Delhi, says Khattar

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Tuesday that his State will not be able to supply additional water to Delhi.

“Haryana is already supplying to Delhi 120 cusecs more than its allocation of water and will not be able to supply more up to June 30. Thereafter, the situation will depend on the availability of water,” he said in New Delhi, after his meeting with Union Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Apprising Mr. Gadkari of water-related issues Haryana has with its neighbours, Mr. Khattar sought the Centre’s intervention in resolving them and was assured of help, a Haryana spokesman said here.

He also urged the Centre to accelerate the pace of construction works of dams — Renuka, Kishau and Lakhwar — in Himachal Pradesh for supply of water to Haryana and Delhi.

“With construction of these dams, there will be more availability of water in the Yamuna,” he pointed out.

The Chief Minister apprised Mr. Gadkari of the written communication sent to the Punjab Chief Minister regarding construction of dams to stop water that is flowing to Pakistan.

“The Central government should take up this matter with the Punjab government,” he added.
