The National Green Tribunal on Wednesday rapped the Uttarakhand government for carrying out construction of a new Legislative Assembly Building in the State without procuring necessary clearances.

The counsel appearing for the State government told the green panel that the government had applied for a grant of the required clearances.

A Bench headed by NGT chairperson Swatanter Kumar asked the Uttarakhand government how such a project could be initiated without obtaining the mandatory environment clearances. The plea, filed by one Vikrant Tongad, had claimed that the project had been initiated without provisions of a sewage treatment plant.
