A 19-year-old Nepalese girl was allegedly gang-raped by six men in South Delhi’s Mehrauli on Monday. The victim also sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

In her complaint, the victim claimed that she was a victim of human trafficking and was forced into prostitution by a couple who brought her to Delhi on the pretext of providing her a better job, said the police.

According to the police, the girl hails from Kathmandu from where she first moved to Haryana’s Panipat district to work as a domestic help. She was employed by a family who paid her Rs.5,000 a month. “In her statement, she told us that while working as a domestic help in Panipat, she came in contact with one Amit and Ranju. The meeting took place two months ago and the two allegedly promised the girl that they could help her in getting a better paying job in the Capital,” said a police officer.

The officer added that the girl came to the Capital with the couple and lived with them in South Delhi’s Khirki Extension. However, she was forced into prostitution by them.

It is alleged that on Sunday, the girl was told to go to the house of a man named Subhash in Saidulajab near Mehrauli.

“As she reached there, she was forced to consume alcohol after which Subhash and five others allegedly took turns to rape her. She was held captive and not allowed to leave the house. In the early hours of Monday, however, she managed to escape,” said the officer.

The victim then reached the police station and narrated her ordeal. The police took the girl to AIIMS for treatment. Medical examination has confirmed rape and also the presence of alcohol in her body.

On the basis of the girl’s statement and the medical report, a case of gang-rape was registered at the Mehrauli police station. The local police arrested Ranju and Amit, and a hunt is on to nab the other accused.

“We have registered a case and are conducting raids in different parts of the city to arrest the absconding suspects,” said the officer.
