With JNU student Najeeb Ahmed missing for almost six months, the Delhi Police on Thursday invited the ire of the High Court for not sharing with its own counsel the details of a Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) report regarding the contents of his laptop and mobile phone.

On Thursday, the Delhi Police submitted the analysis report from CFSL, Hyderabad. The Bench was informed that the same was not shared with senior standing counsel Rahul Mehra.

‘Not appropriate’

Mr. Mehra told the court that he would want to recuse from the case since he had been denied the report. “My job is to assist the court. How can I do that when the police is not sharing information with me?” said Mr. Mehra

At this, the Bench asked the police to apologise to Mr. Mehra. “It is not appropriate to hide things from the counsel who has been authorised to represent you (Delhi Police). You have to brief him about the developments and come to the court through them,” the Bench remarked.

Colin Gonsalves, who was appearing for Najeeb’s mother Fatima also said the police should apologise.

Mr Mehra, meanwhile, requested the court to adjourn the matter till Friday so that he could meet the Delhi Police Commissioner.
