Leader of the Opposition in the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) Mukesh Goel and member of the Education Committee Satbir Sharma on Friday alleged corruption in the procurement of four lakh pairs of shoes for students of North MCD schools.
Claiming that the BJP, which leads the three civic corporations, was “involved in corruption,” whether it was related to procurement of items or allotment of parking or advertisement sites, Mr. Goel demanded an independent inquiry into the procurement process.

Mr. Goel said he had also written to Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung about the seeming corruption in the procurement of shoes.
“The fresh example of corruption is in the procurement of shoes for students. The corporation procured shoes at the rate of Rs.85 and Rs.95 for boys and Rs.83 and Rs.93 for girls. The average cost of shoes for boys and girls is Rs.90,” Mr. Goel alleged.
He added that the corporation distributed shoes to students once a year, but the shoes supplied by the company concerned were of “very poor quality”.
Mr. Goel further said that a comparison with other shoes available in the market proved that the “difference in shoes supplied to the corporation” compared to those available in the open market illustrated that the latter were of “better quality and cheaper”.
