The face of BJP’s campaign in the city, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will kickstart the party’s campaign for the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls through what is touted to be a “grand rally” here on Saturday. The rally that will see the new BJP Chief Ministers of Haryana, Jharkhand and Maharashtra being felicitated by the Delhi unit will also see a battery of top leaders.
BJP president Amit Shah, Union ministers Arun Jaitely, M. Venkaiah Naidu and Piyush Goyal are all expected to share the dais with Mr. Modi besides the seven party MPs from Delhi.
With the BJP attempting to come back to power after 16 years, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said the party was confident of winning the polls with a clear majority this time. “We are very sure that the BJP will get the support of people in the upcoming Assembly polls as we got in Lok Sabha polls. The focus of this rally will only be development,” he said.
The BJP has made a sitting arrangement for around 60,000 people at the venue, even as it has claimed that over one lakh people will be attending the rally.
“We are confident that Delhiites will get a stable government by the BJP after the polls. The rally will help in building the momentum for the party’s victory,” BJP Pradesh in-charge of Delhi Prabhat Jha said.
Regarding full statehood for Delhi, Mr. Jha said: “We have already said in our manifesto that if BJP comes to power, we will make Delhi a full State. Let us first come to power, we will definitely work on it.”
