The ‘Kisan Mukti Sansad’, the gathering of 184 farmer organisations from across the country at the Parliament Street concluded on Tuesday with the national president of Swaraj India party, Yogendra Yadav, questioning the BJP government’s stand on the agrarian crisis.
Referring to the threat by a Bihar BJP leader of chopping off the fingers of anyone who points a finger at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr. Yadav said that everyone here is pointing a finger at the PM for his lax attitude towards the plight of the farmers.
Symbolic protest
He said that the PM has failed to keep the pre-poll promises he made to the farmers.
“I am pointing my finger at Mr. Modi, the whole Kisan Mukti Sansad is pointing fingers at Modi because he cheated and looted the farmers of this country, let us see how many fingers they can chop and how many hands they can cut off,” said Mr. Yadav.
Responding to his appeal, thousands of farmers raised their fingers in unison as a symbolic protest against the government policies. “We are not coming here just with demands, but with a solution as well, a well thought, well debated solution,” he said.
Mr. Yadav also said that Mr. Modi does not have time to visit the farmers who are five minutes away from his residence and office.
“Mr. Modi is a busy man. He does not have time to meet us here. Maybe he is busy in Gujarat, so we will go there and begin our campaign from there, and if he has any concern left for the farmers of this country, he should come and meet them there,” he said.
Campaign for MSP
On the future course of action of All India Kisan Sangarsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC), Mr. Yadav said that Kisan Mukti Abhiyan will begin a campaign to ensure that no crop is being sold below the set minimum support price (MSP). He also said that the country-wide campaign will begin on November 26 — the day when the constitution of this country was finalised and end on January 26 — the day when the constitution was approved.
The campaign will begin from Bardoli in Gujarat.
