BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in his rally in Dwarka here on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the Sheila Dikshit-led Congress Government questioning her for not being able to provide water to the city’s residents. “I have come from the real Dwarka. This is the tanker wala Dwarka,” he said, referring to the tankers that supply water to the parched West Delhi neighbourhoods.
Speaking at a DDA park in Dwarka, Mr. Modi said Ms. Dikshit cannot not question him on his ‘Gujarat Model’ when she has not been able to provide water to residents even after being in power for 15 years. He drew parallels between Delhi and Gujarat when it came to water supply, cleaning of the main rivers and the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor.
“I believe Rs. 3,900 crore was spent in cleaning the Yamuna. I urge people to come look at how we have cleaned the Sabarmati and beautified the river front. We only spent Rs. 900 crore,” he said. “The next example is the BRT corridor. The plan from Gujarat was photocopied and put here only to make money. Come see the real corridors in Ahmedabad, Surat and Rajkot,” he added.
Mr. Modi urged his audience to not forget the ‘Nirbhaya’ and ‘Gudiya’ incidents and the kind of “atmosphere” the Congress Government created. “When you go to vote on December 4, remember that Delhi has been made the ‘rape capital’, protesters are water cannoned and the Delhi Police beat up people in Ram Lila Maidan in the middle of the night,” he said.
