: Property was vandalised and staff was manhandled by a mob on Sunday night at Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini after a patient died there.

The incident happened around 9.30 p.m. when one Parvez, who had met with an accident, succumbed to injuries in the casualty department of the hospital.

Angry mob

Soon after, the patient’s attendants –almost 30-40 in number- started abusing the hospital staff and vandalised the entire department, including the emergency room and an operation theatre.

“All on-duty staff, including the security guards, had to run for cover,’’ said a hospital staff. While a FIR has been registered in the case, doctors at the hospital are agitated that medical staff in the Capital has been subjected to assault at workplace despite initiatives by the State health department.

Message for the public

The Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) said they would start a campaign to appeal to the public not to opt a career in medicine. “How can doctors be held responsible for each and every death? We will also ask the Health Minister to shut down all hospitals after 4 p.m. since the environment is becoming scary. It seems now only God can help us,’’ said Dr. Pankaj Solanki, president, FORDA.
