A 29-year-old resident of south-west Delhi who went missing five days ago was found outside a temple in Gurugram on Monday morning. According to the police, Varun Vohra is unable to recall the sequence of events clearly.

Case registered

Mr. Vohra, an employee with a finance firm in Gurugram, had gone missing on June 27. After repeated attempts to contact him on the phone failed and friends denied any knowledge of his whereabouts, his family approached the police. A case of kidnapping was registered.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-west) Surender Kumar said the police shared Mr. Vohra’s photograph on various social media platforms and alerted police across Uttar Pradesh, Faridabad and Gurugram.

ATM card swiped

“Records of missing persons in the neighbouring States and unidentified bodies were scanned but Mr. Vohra remained untraceable. However, his ATM card was swiped,” said a senior police officer.

Mr. Vohra’s parents received a call from him on Monday morning. He told them that he was standing in front of Sheetla Mata temple in Gurugram. His parents rushed to the spot and brought him home. The police were also informed.

Upon questioning, Mr. Vohra told the police that the sequence of events was fuzzy.

“He said he boarded a cab from Gurugram around 10 p.m. When he reached Dwarka, the men sitting in the cab overpowered him and took him to various places across Delhi,” said the officer.

Mr. Vohra also told the police that he cannot remember why and when he swiped his ATM card. He alleged that the men, allegedly two to three of them, took his wallet before leaving him at the temple.

“He said he hadn’t slept well over the past few days. We are waiting for him to recover so that the sequence of events can be established and the accused identified,” said Mr. Kumar.
