‘Missing’ IGNOU student returns home

He had gone to Patna from JNU campus

The A 26-year-old Ph.D student of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) who had gone missing from Jawaharlal Nehru University campus a few days back returned to his Ghaziabad home on Thursday from Patna, the police said.

Mukul Jain, who is enrolled in IGNOU’s Life Sciences course, had been missing since Monday. He told the police that he had gone to Patna for Ganga snan .

‘Depressed’

A senior police officer said Mr. Jain, who was depressed after a breakup, left for Patna straight from the JNU campus. He left his mobile phone and ATM card in the JNU lab, the officer added.

Mr. Jain had gone to JNU to meet his research adviser.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere said, “He left for Patna on Monday. He took a train from Delhi and reached there a day later. After spending a day in Patna, he took a train back and reached Delhi on Thursday morning.”

The officer added that Mr. Jain cut short his trip after he saw the news of his disappearance going viral on television channels.
