The Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Minister Satish Mahana on Thursday visited Noida to inspect the Sector 11 building where six persons died following a fire.

“I asked why the building does not have a NoC from the fire department. Fire officials were speechless. I sought details of buildings that have fire systems in place. But they do not maintain proper records of that too. I inspected a company in Sector 1 for fire safety and found the system non-functional. We will take action within 24 hours against officials responsible,” said Mr. Mahana. He added that the fire department will check all industrial buildings for fire safety in three months.

“We informed the building owner of specifications to be followed. Once it was ready they should have applied for NOC, which would be cleared after an inspection. After that, the authority would issue occupancy certificate after thorough checking of fire systems. But that process lapsed, leaving the building vulnerable,” said Arvind Kumar joint director, UP fire department.
