Final-year MBBS student at Safdarjung Hospital Komal Kadyan never imagined that her career’s first emergency would be of her father Krishan, a Delhi Police sub-inspector who had suffered two bullet injuries in the encounter that led to the killing of Delhi’s two most-wanted criminals in south Delhi on June 9.

On his way to the hospital from the encounter spot in Chhatarpur on June 9, he called his daughter and asked her to come to AIIMS trauma centre as he would be going there for treatment. She was in Safdarjung Hospital, which is located across the road.

“I never thought that my career’s first emergency case will be that of my father’s. When I received him at AIIMS trauma centre, he told me not to worry and that he was all right. He was on a wheelchair and blood was oozing out of his right arm. I assisted him till the operation theatre, where he was taken care by other senior doctors,” said Komal.

She said her father always wanted her to become a doctor.

She stays in a hostel but had gone home to meet her parents in Vikaspuri on June 8. On June 9, her father left early for the job.

First encounter

“He never discussed the nature of his job at home. My two younger brothers are in college out of Delhi,” she added.

Krishan’s father was also in the Delhi Police and retired as a head constable. He died a few years ago.

Krishan, who awarded an out-of-turn promotion, tracked the movements of gangs active in the city. This was his first encounter and he was in the police team that led the operation.

“Krishan was in the police car that intercepted the SUV in which the gangsters were travelling. He blocked the SUV and challenged them to surrender but they opened fired on the police van,” said a senior police officer.

“He suffered two bullet injuries in the right arm. The bullet are yet to be removed from his body but the doctors said he is out of danger,” police officer added.

Five policemen were reportedly injured in the encounter. Head constable Gurdeep and Girdhar, assistant sub-inspector Harichand, sub-inspector Bijender Singh and Krishan. Gurdeep has suffered two bullet injuries one on the left side of the chest and the other on the right hand.
