Saksham Yadav (28), who was among those who passed away in the accident, was an acclaimed powerlifter. He represented India in powerlifting championships in Slovakia and Moscow, and won medals in 2016 and 2017.

Mr. Yadav lived with his elder sister, who works with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Civil Lines. His sedan had a Central government-issued sticker.

Sunil Lochab, Mr. Yadav’s coach, said he had won a gold medal in the junior category in 2016 and one in the senior category in 2017 in the world championship. He explained that powerlifting is different from weightlifting, in which weights are lifted overhead.

Meawhile, Gaurav, the younger brother of Saurabh, who also died in the accident, said his family has donated his brother’s eyes.
