Six new chairmen and deputy chairmen for the six ward committees of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi were elected at the MCD headquarters in Town Hall here on Friday. Elections to all the posts were unanimous.
The new members were elected by ward committees of Civil Lines, Najafgarh, Narela, Karol Bagh, Shahdara (South) and West zones. Elections to the post of chairmen, deputy chairmen and members of the Standing Committee for the other six zones were held on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Yogendra Chandolia of the Bharatiya Janata Party filed his nomination for the post of Standing Committee chairman in the office of the Municipal Secretary at Town Hall on Friday. Similarly, Sarita Chaudhary of the BJP also filed her nominations for the post of deputy chairman of the Standing Committee. They were accompanied by Leader of the House Subhash Arya and a number of other BJP councillors and supporters.
The last date for filing nominations for the post of chairman and deputy chairman of the Standing Committee is May 24 up to 5 p.m. at the Municipal Secretary's office. Names can be withdrawn at any time before the commencement of the election at the meeting. The election to these posts will be held on May 28 at the meeting of the Standing Committee at Town Hall.
