Max case: kin take baby’s body, perform last rites

Protest outside hospital continues

A day after the death of the infant, who was wrongly declared dead by Max Hospital Shalimar Bagh along with his twin sister on November 30 but later found alive, the family performed his last rites on Thursday.

The family had a day earlier refused to take his body till action was taken against the erring doctors.

His uncle Deepak said they decided to collect his body as per the wishes of the elders in the family.

“They told us that it is not okay to not perform his last rites according to tradition. So he was buried in the evening [on Thursday]. We took him home to Nihal Vihar and then buried him at Chander Vihar shamshan ghat ,” Mr. Deepak said.

The boy’s post-mortem was conducted at Safdarjung Hospital on Wednesday and his body was collected by the family around 3 p.m. on Thursday.

Call for action

Meanwhile, the protest by the family outside Max Hospital entered Day Seven. The family has been demanding the arrest of the doctors allegedly responsible for the negligence.

“We will continue to protest till our demand is fulfilled,” he said.

According to the family, senior police officers met them on Thursday and informed them that investigation into the case has been transferred to the Crime Branch.
