Man shot dead by neighbour after brawl over water connection

Main accused injured; will be arrested after he recovers

A 45-year-old was allegedly shot dead by his neighbour in Sangam Vihar on Friday following an argument over water connection from the Delhi Jal Board water lines, the police said.

Kishan, who is the brother of a BJP corporator, lived with his family in B Block of Sangam Vihar.

He wanted a pipeline connection that would pass from outside accused Babli’s house but the neighbour would not allow it. The issue sparked an argument, which was followed by stone throwing by the both the families. Seven persons, including a women, were injured in the incident.

Stating that five persons have been arrested, DCP (South) Romil Baaniya said three others named in the FIR are absconding and efforts are on to arrest them.

Locals said Kishan and his family were talking to some plumbers at the time of the incident. Babli, who was inside his house, came to know about Kishan’s plan regarding the water pipeline.

“Babli got furious as Kishan had not taken his permission. He started abusing him and held him by the collar. Kishan hit him. In no time, their families started fighting,” said Ram Avatar, a local.

The fight turned ugly as both sides started hurling stones at each other. A local called the police around 8.30 p.m. However, by the time the police reached the spot Babli had shot at Kishan and fled. He was later arrested from an abandoned plot. The police said Babli too has sustained injuries and will be arrested he recovers.

A case has been registered based on a statement by Kishan’s son Manish. Kishan’s wife and son were also injured in the incident. The police said the arrested persons include Babli’s two brothers, his father and his cousin.
