A 28-year-old man was killed and his brother grievously injured when a group of assailants opened fire at them in outer Delhi’s Khanjhawala late on Friday night.

More than a dozen rounds were fired. The police have ruled out the possibility of gang rivalry and said they are waiting for the injured brother to gain consciousness and give a clearer picture on what happened. None of the suspects have been identified yet. According to the police, they received a call from a passer-by around 12.30 a.m. about two injured men lying on the road. A team was sent to the spot and the men were rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where one of them, identified as Sumit, 28, was declared brought dead. His elder brother, Sajjan, 35, was said to be critical.

According to the police, Sumit had gone to a dhaba where he had an argument with the accused men, following which he called Sajjan to the spot. As soon as he reached the dhaba , the assailants opened fire.

The assailants fled leaving behind their motorbike. The police said the vehicles will help them in identifying the men. They said that the CCTV footage from the area was also being scanned to ascertain the sequence of events. The police have not ruled out possibility of personal enmity being the reason.
