Man held for raping 14-year-old

August 08, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:53 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old in south-east Delhi’s Govindpuri a few months ago.

The rape came to light recently during a health check-up, when the family learnt that she was six months pregnant.

Doctors told the family that terminating the pregnancy at this stage would end up endangering her life.

When questioned, the victim told her family that a fish-seller living in their neighbourhood had raped her at knifepoint and threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.

“The girl remained silent all these months because of the threat. By the time the family discovered the rape, it was too late for an abortion,” said a police officer.

A case has been registered.

Meanwhile, worried about the girl’s future as well as that of her unborn child, the family members have appealed to all authorities, including the Prime Minister’s Office, and the State and National Commissions for Women, for help.
